In 1950 Ira was Lithograph Manager before becoming an accountant. He attended William Paterson College when it was a two year college and located off of Market Street in Paterson, New Jersey. Most of his working life he worked for Curtis-Wright Aeronautical as their US military contract negotiator. One year he was laid off from Curtis-Wright and began doing taxes in the community. He clients were mostly lower middle class workers which he only charge $7. and went with another who was audited by the IRS. People said they never received money back before Ira started doing their taxes. He did all his children's friends parents taxes for free and had high praise for the father. At Ira's funeral, the funeral home was packed with his many clients and military colleague.

When Ira Reese Day was born on January 13, 1921, in Paterson, New Jersey, his father, was 31 and his mother, Mary, was 25. He middle name was Reese which was a wealthy Jewish family in Paterson, New Jersey his mother worked for as a servant, sewing and where she learned to cook.

Ira told his children that he was one quart English, so going back, George (abt 1818) and Sarah Day (abt 1820) were both full english. But as this tree shows, we have many more nationalities than those.

JUNE 1917, 27 age, medium height, stout, black hair, grey eyes, born 11-9-1889 worked as a Plumber at John T. Mc Brides Marshal St, lived on 169 Marshal st. Pat NJ.

On his birth record he was delivered by a Mrs. Frances from 5 Peach Street, Paterson. Ira Day, son of Ira Day, b. August 5, 1854 (about 31 at son's birth), and Helen (or Ellen/Nilly/Nellie) Gorman Day born in Ireland and 25 yrs. old at son's birth.

Was a Welder/boiler repairs for 22 years at Vanderback Co. and lived on 8 Weiss Street, Paterson, NJ. His last job was a night watchman at Center Lamber Co. Ira was 65 when he died on May 30, 1955. He had cancer of the throat. Death record said he had two nephews. He was called Dada by his grandchildren.

When Ira Day was born on August 5, 1854, in Pompton, New Jersey, his father, George, was 36 and his mother, Sarah, was 32. Ira had four brothers and seven sisters.

IRA was 16 on the 1870 census and working is a Silk Mill, Paterson, NJ.

He married Ellen Gorman on October 16, 1884, in Paterson, New Jersey by a Justice Of The Peace in Paterson to Helen (Ellan, Nilly, Ella) Gorman who was 20 yrs. old on marriage. They lived in Paterson on 286 S, Mill Street . They had four children.

Ira Day 1854, still living in 1905 with his wife, Helen and kids. Ira dies before the 1915 census since he does not appear of the 1915 census along with Ellen and sons, Halstead and IRA.

Halstead J. Day, born OCT 1884 died in 1941, lived at 169 Marshal St. Pat NJ, died of a 3 week illness- Cerebral hemorrhage which could be the same gene that causes heart disease in other family members, at St Joseph's Hosp, Paterson, NJ. Halstead was well known in Southern part of city; survived by his mother, Ellen Day, brother IRA Jr, and sister Mrs Mary,( known as Minnie) her (husband's name)Van Parliman.

Ira Martin Day 1889-1955. On his WW1 DRAFT CARD, JUNE 1917, 27 age, stout, black hair, grey eyes, born 11-9-1889 worked as a Plumber at John T. Mc Brides Marshal St, lived on 169 Marshal st. Pat NJ. On 1900 Census, he was 42 yrs. old.

In 1880, Ira was still a laborer in one of the silk mills.

The family were Catholics.
